Encouraging Open Spaces at Devopsdays Events
Lighting Talk
en
Open Spaces are literally what the Devopsdays conference series was founded on. They are a key element of the Devopsdays experience, but their execution is inconsistent—often due to misconceptions about what they are and how to run them. To wit: let's talk about what works (and what doesn't), and help to bring Open Spaces back to the brand, globally.
Let's get this out of the way: 1. open spaces aren't for everybody, and 2. really big events have scaling issues. Fine. Now let's get to the important part: how to encourage and ultimately run successful open spaces at Devopsdays events. It all starts with good communication and interest-building both prior to the event itself, as well as at the event (but prior to the spaces). Then, when it's open space time, a good introduction is _paramount_, including fun activities and idea seeding. During the open spaces, having "moderators" to move the conversation forward and—crucially—encourage lesser-heard voices, is key. Finally, a round-up afterwards on day one is helpful to help encourage participation on day two.

The care and feeding of sponsors
Lighting Talk

There are very few events which could run without sponsors, yet much of the time it seems like their inclusion is an afterthought. In this talk I'll go over things you can do to make the sponsor experience better, which will then lead to them coming back and wanting to sponsor more events.
We hear it at every event; "We couldn't do this without our sponsors". But are we all keeping that in mind when defining the sponsor experience at our events? There are many things you can do to make it a great experience for your attendees and your sponsors.
Do the venues you're looking at have a space big enough for the number of sponsors you'll need?
Does the space have good traffic flow?
Can you put food and beverages in the sponsor area?
Can you work with your sponsors on social media promotions which benefit you both?
And a lot more.

Picking venues can be hard and very time consuming. In Kansas City, we picked a different venue each year until 2019. We'll look at the reasons to change venues and why it might be good to stick with one for more than a year. This will also give you a little taste of the KC style.

Most conferences don't care much about the food, but providing delicious food is something we've been praised for in Kansas City. We'll walk through all the things we've done to make sure our food enhances our attendee experience. From bagels to BBQ and lattes to ice cream, we've tried it all.

How to run a devopsdays while working for a devops vendor
Lighting Talk

DevOps market is growing crazy and for most organizations, organizing a devopsdays seems to be are a great way to market their product or service. Most core and local organizers are also working for companies with devops ties. This can create a conflict if we aren't aware of the real value lying in devopsdays and take certain precautions.
In this talk, as someone who is working for a "devops" vendor, is organizing a local event with a bunch of folks who work for a devops vendor, and is attending a bunch of other devopsdays, I'll share my lessons learned to avoid turning your event into a marketing show.

The DevOpsDays London team is always looking to improve Diversity and Inclusion at our event. In this talk we'll share what we've tried so far - what worked, what didn't work and lessons we've learnt along the way.
In the tech industry one of our favourite ways of sharing information and ideas, gaining insights and knowledge as well as growing our network of contacts is to attend and speak at events such as conferences and meetups. Unfortunately we often see that attendees and speakers look similar, come from similar backgrounds and have similar outlooks, all of which leads us to miss out on the innovation and creativity that diversity brings us.
So why is this happening and how can we make our events more accessible to a broader and more diverse group of people? The organisers of DevOpsDays London have been focussed on creating a welcoming, inclusive event and in this talk we will present some of the measures we've experimented with to increase accessibility and inclusive. What worked and what didn’t, with suggestions for how we can all contribute to making our events more welcoming in the future.

From 2 to 15: DevOpsDays in Brazil: challenges and achievements
Lighting Talk
en
Few sponsors, almost no money and a huge country. DevOpsDays in Brazil big cities are thriving, but what about smaller towns without tech communities? What are the challenges and achievements so far?
DevOpsDays in Brazil started 2010 in São Paulo, but they didn't organize it again in any city. We started back in 2016 in Porto Alegre and realized that we could help other cities to assemble too.
We started to help other cities with documentation, sponsors, contacts, tips, and money. Brasília happened in 2016 too.
Here is the list of following years:
* 2017: Salvador, Brasília and Porto Alegre
* 2018: Salvador, Feira de Santana, Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza, Belém, Florianópolis, Maringá, Porto Alegre, Santa Maria.
* 2019: Natal, São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Aracaju, Recife, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Feira de Santana, Florianópolis, Belo Horizonte, Belém, Campinas, Goiania, Brasília.
The cities of the north had more difficult to find sponsors and people to attend, but these events are helping the local community to grow. I will show some data related to this growth.

DevOps is culture and movement. I will introduce how DevOpsDays arrived China. It not only connect the Development and Operations but also connected from West to the East. From the first meetign with Patrick in 2016 till he arrived in the DevOpsDays Beijing stage in 2017 and take Selfie with 1000 ChineseDevOps practioners. It was exicting journey and memorable stories.
I am Sun Zhenpeng, I had the privilege to work with international team and Patrick and Kris to bring DevOpsDays to China in 2017. I have initiated the China DevOpsDays Organizer team. Since the first DevOpsDays kicked off in Beijing March 18 2017 together with Patrick and Kris, I have been leading and organizing the 6 DevOpsDays events in China. ( Beijing 2017,2018 and 2019, Shanghai 2017,2018 and ShenZhen 2018) in total 6 stages.
Start from how the DevOpsDays China logo was designed what it is the purpose of it
till story of Patrick landed in DevOpsDays Beijing Stage only in 72 hours time to save the first China event
and my experience in working with other organizers to get last 6 events done and organized.

A (Quick) Deep Dive Into The DevOpsDays Website
Ignite

The point of this ignite is to provide some insight and tips into a) features of the devopsdays website you can use as an organizer that you might not know about and b) give a little technical background into some of the idiosyncrasies of the site’s technology (pipeline, etc). Hopefully this will help organizers we able to better use the site for their events, and also maybe generate some Open Space conversation on how to improve the site overall!
